Best Motorcycle Helmets Types
There are five motorcycle helmet types: full face helmet, open face helmet, modular helmet, half helmet, and off road helmet. These motorcycle helmet types are described below:
Full Face Helmet
Helmet covering the entire head is a Full Face Helmet.
It is the best helmet for face protection and comes with a face shield that protects motorcyclist eyes from bugs, the wind, debris, and other distractions. Riders prefer this helmet because of its protectiveness.
Open Face or Three-Quarter Helmet
Helmet covering ears, cheeks, and back of the head, but lacking the lower chin bar area of a full face helmet is an Open Face Helmet.
This helmet has better visibility than a full face helmet, but this helmet can cause discomfort to riders as bugs, dust, and wind can come into face or eyes of motorcyclists.It is required by law in some US states to wear an open face helmet either with wraparound sunglasses or goggles.
Modular or Flip Up Helmet
A hybrid helmet that allows riders to enjoy the benefit of an open-face helmet and protection of a full face helmet is a Modular Helmet.
Modular helmets are slightly easier to put on the head than full-face helmets. Chin bar of a hybrid helmet can be flipped up allowing riders to eat, drink, and communicate. This design is popular among motor racers and those who wear eyeglasses.
Half Helmet or Shorty
Helmet that protects head the least is a Half Helmet. A half helmet may come off quickly in a crash.
It has better visibility than any other motorcycle helmet types. Shorty can cause riders to suffer from severe neck strain. It was popular in the 60s, but today it is not a recommended design for bikers.
Off Road or Motocross Helmets
